temple in the suburbs

In an open swath of parking lot and suburban hop scotch development down the street from my high school and a few miles from my folks' house resides the first North American
Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Temple
in Stafford, Texas. Planning for other places of worship by a Unitarian Fellowship and a few other denominations are underway just down the street. On one short stretch of asphalt there will be a healthy choice of religious centers across from a trailer park, new residential development and an older working class neighborhood of ranch houses. The Regal Ranch is there too. It will be worth another visit to see how this cultural smorgasbord unfolds in about four years.

Neat photo...looks like a multi exposure. I thought the Rosicrucian's had the ultimate temples....dang. That's a great Holga shot...love that contrast.

The temple has built-in multi-colored fiber optic lighting. I wish I could've stayed for the laser light show.

South of Houston (Pearland) there is another elaborate Hindu Temple, and they have peacocks! I think it's more mainsream than the one I visited on this trip.

so...are you going to be on a public art board in texas? i admit that public art is hard. it's hard to be great when pleasing the masses. yet it's done all the time. i'm sorry, though; i'll have to disagree with you on the adickes banana phone!

and here's the link to the head forest: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/SDLEApresidents.html
